Letter from the President August 21, 2017 Once again, summer has rolled by fast this year for the Directors and staff of AUVSI New England. Robotica 2017 seems like the very recent past, but the calendar belies the truth of 60+ days gone by. We had a great show and all participants were pleased with the new location and felt the structure of the event is really starting to come together. 2018 will mark the 4th year for Robotica, and planning is getting under way. At the July 2017 Board of Directors meeting, the chapter welcomed two new Directors and made formal the appointment of a new Executive Committee. Robert O'Malley, Business Director with iXBlue (Natick, MA), and Jeffrey DeCarlo, Massachusetts Dept of Transportation - Aviation Administrator, both joined the board for three year terms. Both members come to the board as long term members of the association and represent distinctive market sectors that are at the core of the AUVSI New England's focus. New England chapter had its annual member meeting hosted at WPI in Worcester. Waseem Naqvi, President, AUVSI New England, discussed the status and progress of the chapters activities on behalf of its members. Jeff Adams, Secretary, and Peter Wurman, Director and Chair of the Nomination committee, described the recent chnage in by-laws and the results of the election for the members of the Board of Directors. The 2017 AUVSI New England election resulted in 8 members of the Board of Directors beginning a three year term of service. These members included 6 returning members and 2 new members. For details…
AUVSI New England is honored to announce that it was selected as Chapter of the Year from the 36 AUVSI chapters internationally. Brian Wynne, President and CEO, AUVSI presented the award to Waseem Naqvi, President AUVSI New England at XPONENTIAL in Dallas. Brian also thanked Waseem for serving on the AUVSI Board of Directors representing all 36 US and international chapters.

After a contested election AUVSI New England is pleased to announce its new Board of Directors with term beginning June 1st. Five Directors were elected - four new and one returning Director. AUVSI New England Lunch 'N' Learn Series Visit to Massachusetts UAS Test Center - Operations and Research Thursday 12 November 2015, 12:00pm - 04:00pm Approximately 60 people participated in AUVSI New England’s Lunch 'N' Learn visit to Avwatch. The event was organized to be predominantly informal with a focus on networking with access granted to Avwatch’s facilities, hangers, and aircraft. The event started with an overview of the Massachusetts Unmanned Aircraft Systems Test Center (MA UASTC), which is part of one of the six granted FAA UAS Test Sites. AUVSI New England participated in MassEcon Robotics Industry Roundtable at WPI Higgis House on October 15 2015. The Roundtable was moderated by Prof. Mike Gennert: Director of Robotics Engineering Program at WPI. The Panelists were: Tye Brady: Chief Technologist at Amazon Robotics Dan Theobald: CTO & Co-Founder at Vecna Russell Singleton: Senior Vice President of Research & Development at Medrobotics. The discussion included developing the state of Massachusetts as a powerhouse in robotics research and their use, especially in manufacturing, across the world. MassTLC's MassRobotics cluster was seen as an uber-incubator for the Commonwealth. 
AUVSI New England participated in MassTLC Cross-Border Innovation & Business Robotics Seminar,in Cambridge, MA on 14 October 2015. Canadian Robotics Innovation from 4 Canadian startups were presented. The startups were: B-TemiaExoskeleton for medical and military applications. RxRoboticsHumanoid robot used for pediatric pain management that helps children cope with medical procedures Polymer RoboticsMRI-Guided Robotic Surgery Redtree RoboticsChipset lets you easily connect sensors, actuators, components and other parts to the robot without the hassle of complicated circuits, specialized hardware or device drivers This was followed with a cross-border business panel with first-hand experience.
