Startup Weekend Blue
Entrepreneurs and creative minds will be descending on the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution campus for Startup Weekend-Blue in April. Throughout the course of the 54-hour event, attendees will share ideas, form teams, and launch startups. Through an interactive format, developers, designers and business development folks come together to pitch an idea and launch a business – all in one weekend.
Having a themed Startup Weekend focused on the Blue Economy is very exciting for the region”, said Peter Karlson, the organizing team leader, “it is an important part of building a vibrant entrepreneurial community”.
As a “themed” event, this Startup Weekend is unique. For the first time in the global history of Startup, it will be focusing on “blue economy”, type businesses, marine science and technology and other water related concepts. The “blue economy” is a concept adopted by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and other local community and economic development groups that are working toward a sustainable future for Cape Cod. Among others components, this includes efforts to expand the Cape’s marine science and technology business sector and promote a blue tech innovation cluster. Further information about Cape Cod’s Blue Economy can be found at: www.whycapecod.org/blueeconomy.
Around 100 participants are expected over the weekend; additionally, there are limited tickets available for the public for watching the presentations on Sunday afternoon beginning at 3:00.
The event will take place from Friday, April 1 at 5:30 pm to Sunday, April 3 at 5:00 pm at Clark Laboratory, on the Quissett Campus of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. For more information about this weekend’s event or to purchase tickets, please visit: Startup Weekend-Blue
