As the year draws to a close, AUVSI are excited to reflect on the achievements we have made to advance the unmanned systems and robotics community. AUVSI continues to serve you by providing opportunities for networking and business development, keeping you abreast of the latest industry news and technology updates and getting your message to lawmakers and regulators.

IN 2015 AUVSI:
 
Raised awareness about unmanned systems and represented the industry to key decision makers 
  • Led the industry by calling for the FAA to finalize UAS regulations.
  • Testified at five congressional hearings.
  • Hosted four Capitol Hill events, including AUVSI's Hill Day attended by 80 members who held 47 meetings to educate congressional representatives and staff on the state of the unmanned systems industry. Hill Day culminated with the Science and Technology Fair which included exhibitors and more than 300 congressional representatives, staffers, industry leaders and media.
  • Brian Wynne, AUVSI CEO and President, represented AUVSI on the federal government task force for UAS registration, which seeks to increase accountability and safety across the entire aviation community.
  • Participated in UAS policy initiatives:
    • ­Provided industry perspective as part of the international body of Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems (JARUS)
    • Recommended policies for the FAA reauthorization bill, such as comprehensive federal UAS R&D plans
    • Assisted in developing "best practices" on UAS privacy issues at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration's Multistakeholder Process for Unmanned Aircraft Systems
  • Released a report, "How to Fly Commercially: A Complete Guide for Section 333 Exemptions". 
  • Increased media coverage for AUVSI by 40 percent.
Provided education, networking opportunities and resources for member growth
  • Rebranded AUVSI's Unmanned Systems conference to XPONENTIAL. This year's event featured more than 8,000 industry leaders, 600 exhibitors and professionals from more than 55 countries. Moving forward, XPONENTIAL is committed to serving as the ultimate industry event experience.
  • Unmanned Systems Program Review, now Unmanned Systems Defense, focused on topics such as the Department of Defense's budget and technology acquisition plans along with the technological hurdles facing the industry.
  • The Automated Vehicle Symposium experienced continued growth in attendance with an increase of more than 50 percent over 2014 attendance numbers. Speakers discussed the state of driving, technology adoption and the future of self-driving cars.
  • Unmanned Systems Europe hosted attendees from 25 different countries to discuss their unique points of view on the changing regulations in Europe that will eventually permit unmanned aircraft to fly in non-segregated airspace.
  • AUVSI's webinar series, featured a range of topics from robots impacting our health, to UAS insurance and why it matters to you, to unmanned maritime system arctic operations.
Kept you informed on the latest industry news and trends
  • Launched The Daily Robot, a daily opt-in members only news blast that provides critical intelligence on the unmanned systems and robotics industry.
  • Created a monthly Advocacy Report, a detailed illustration of AUVSI's government relations activities.
  • Improved the online presence of Unmanned Systems magazine, to include animations, live links and video.
Promoted industry safety
  • Added new supporters to the Know Before You Fly UAS safety campaign, now totaling more than 40 companies and associations.
  • Created new functionality for the website, including up-to-the-minute notices of flight restrictions via our partner AirMap.
  • Along with our partners, created a new safety flyer that manufacturers and distributors are placing in their product boxes.
